Baseball Game Preview: Columbus Falcons vs. Warren Central Vikings

Columbus is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will square off against the Warren Central Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Columbus knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Warren Central likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Columbus was able to grind out a solid win over Winona, taking the game 13-10.

Meanwhile, Warren Central owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Madison-Ridgeland Academy. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Hayes Loper was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Warren Central is 2-1 when Loper posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

Columbus has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. Warren Central's win bumped their record up to 6-8.

Columbus suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Warren Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Columbus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
