Basketball Game Preview: Great Mills Hornets vs. Thomas Stone Cougars

The Great Mills Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Thomas Stone Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Great Mills is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Westlake just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 54-47 to the Wolverines. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Hornets came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Wolverines are ranked 224th).

Meanwhile, after soaring to 65 points the game before, Thomas Stone was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They took a hard 48-29 fall against Lake Clifton. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Lakers: they've now lost four in a row.

Great Mills' loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4. As for Thomas Stone, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.

Great Mills beat Thomas Stone 68-56 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Great Mills since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
