Baseball Recap: South Decatur Has No Trouble Against Waldron

South Decatur was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Waldron on Wednesday. The Cougars blew past the Mohawks 9-2. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Mohawks last Thursday, they had to take a 4-0 loss.

JP Scudder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. South Decatur is 3-1 when Scudder posts eight or more strikeouts, but 1-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Toby Bishop, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Corbin Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

South Decatur's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Waldron, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Decatur will host Morristown at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Waldron, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against North Decatur at 5:00 p.m. The Mohawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
