Basketball Recap: Tennessee Comes Up Short

Tennessee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 71-36 defeat at the hands of the Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hurricanes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Tennessee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jasmine Jones went 7 for 11 on her way to 15 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Those five steals gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addi Moore, who posted 17 points and three steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morristown-Hamblen East to victory, but perhaps none more so than Harmony Sullivan, who went 10 of 19 on her way to 24 points and eight rebounds. Sullivan is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Hall, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards.

Tennessee's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Tennessee won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in West Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, they and Morristown-Hamblen West will meet in a classic East v. West matchup at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
