Basketball Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

Independence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 38-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the Washington Rams. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Patriots have suffered since January 22, 2024.

Washington found their leader in freshman Alicia Mendez, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Zoey Cook, who had eight points.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Washington, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7.

Independence will face off against La Joya Community at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for Washington, they will square off against Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
