Recap: Mitchell Tigers vs. Sterling Tigers
The Mitchell Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 14th straight loss. Their rough 53-33 defeat to Sterling might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Mitchell has suffered since January 9th.
Despite the defeat, Mitchell saw an underclassman step up: Addy Bowlin scored 21 points along with four steals. That was a full 63.6% of Mitchell's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Keener, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.
Sterling was led to victory by Tatym Dempcy and Taylor Tonche. Dempcy dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Tonche scored 17 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Tonche scored 15 or more points. Ellie Soper was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds.
Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Sterling, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.
Mitchell's road trip will continue as they head out to face Morrill at 5:30 p.m. on February 1st. As for Sterling, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Weld Central at 6:00 p.m. Weld Central is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
