The Wesson Cobras will challenge the Lawrence County Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Wesson made easy work of South Pike and carried off an 18-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cobras in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Maddie Sanders was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in doubles.
In other batting news, Jaide Shoop was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ady Rose Dowd, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Wesson hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lawrence County faced off against McComb on Thursday. Lawrence County put the hurt on McComb with a sharp 18-1 victory. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Marleigh Grace Russell made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adaya Ball, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Erika Lambert was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Lawrence County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Wesson's win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Wesson's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. Wesson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lawrence County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wesson continue to outrun the ball?
Wesson skirted past Lawrence County 8-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Wesson repeat their success, or does Lawrence County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
