Preview: Gibault Catholic Hawks vs. Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians
The Gibault Catholic Hawks's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Gibault Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 397th, while Carlyle is ranked 88th).
Last Saturday, Gibault Catholic beat Saxony Lutheran 44-36.
Meanwhile, Carlyle had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Steeleville as Carlyle made off with a 65-44 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Carlyle has posted since December 1, 2023.
Gibault Catholic now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Carlyle, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Things could have been worse for Gibault Catholic, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-40 loss to Carlyle in their previous meeting back in January of 2020. Can Gibault Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
