Softball Game Preview: Cumberland Pirates vs. Lawrenceville Indians

The Cumberland Pirates will square off against the Lawrenceville Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Cumberland came up short against Argenta-Oreana on Thursday, falling 11-3.

Cumberland saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kinley McMechan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base. Another was Kada Miles, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Lawrenceville's offense. They lost 9-0 to Marshall on Thursday. The Indians have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Lawrenceville's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Cumberland, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Lawrenceville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cumberland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Lawrenceville, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Cumberland's sizable advantage in that area, the Indians will need to find a way to close that gap.

Cumberland came out on top in a nail-biter against Lawrenceville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
