Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Charter Griffins vs. Melbourne Bulldogs

The Gateway Charter Griffins will face off against the Melbourne Bulldogs at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Gateway Charter has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Monday just wasn't the day for Gateway Charter's offense. They came up short against Northside Christian on Monday, falling 16-0. The Griffins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Melbourne, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bayside a 3-0 shutout on Wednesday.

Sean Gates tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Melbourne's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Conner, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Gabriel Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Melbourne is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Gateway Charter's loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
