Basketball Game Preview: Cotulla Cowboys vs. Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls)

The Cotulla Cowboys are taking a road trip to face off against the Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Cotulla put up the most points they have all season on Tuesday. They breezed past Pettus to the tune of 101-67. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cowboys.

Cotulla got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rene Barrera out in front who dropped a triple-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds, and ten assists. The game was Barrera's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. Jamarkuz Ramirez was another key player, going 10-for-20 on his way to 32 points and six assists.

Cotulla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Uvalde over Poteet in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) blew the Aggies out of the water with an 87-37 final score. That 50 point margin sets a new team best for the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) this season.

Cotulla's record is now 5-10. As for Uvalde, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Cotulla came up short against Uvalde in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 52-41. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
