Baseball Game Preview: Crystal River Pirates vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets

The Crystal River Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the Weeki Wachee Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Crystal River fell victim to Weeki Wachee and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Pirates were not able to get on the board.

For Weeki Wachee's part, Jack Strong was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Strong has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Zahora, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Strong wasn't the only one making solid contact: Weeki Wachee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for the Hornets: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.

Weeki Wachee pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Crystal River, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
