Football Recap: Spring Creek Skates Past Dayton with Ease

The matchup between Spring Creek and Dayton on Friday hardly resembled the 0-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Spartans claimed a resounding 48-18 win over the Dust Devils. With the Spartans ahead 35-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Spring Creek was led to victory by Landon Boyle and McCoy McArtor. Boyle rushed for 186 yards and three scores on only 14 carries, while McArtor rushed for 84 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 186 rushing yards gave Boyle a new career-high.

Spring Creek didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Dayton to a completion percentage of just 46.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Snowdon Bear Williams, Aiden Walthers, and Danny Manhire, who each logged one passes deflected. Spring Creek wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 69.2%.

When it comes to explaining why Dayton lost, don't look at Duke Evans. Despite the final result, he rushed for 223 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Evans' longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Spring Creek and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 18 points in those games. As for Dayton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Spring Creek will venture away from home to take on South Tahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dayton, they will host Sierra Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' defense has only allowed 13.4 points per game this season, so the Dust Devils' offense will have their work cut out for them.
