Preview: Chico Panthers vs. Foothill Cougars
Chico has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Foothill Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Chico got themselves on the board against Pleasant Valley, but Pleasant Valley never followed suit. They blew past the Vikings 35-0 on the road.
Dion Coleman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 256 yards and five touchdowns on only 12 carries. Coleman's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards. Troy Sommer did his part to keep the secondary busy, gaining 115 total yards.
Meanwhile, Foothill was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Red Bluff 34-6 at home. The result was nothing new for Foothill, who have now won four contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Their wins bumped Chico to 6-1 and Foothill to 4-3.
Chico was dealt a bruising 43-6 loss at the hands of Foothill in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Chico, Davis Smith (who threw for 116 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
