Basketball Game Preview: Magee Trojans vs. McLaurin Tigers

Magee is 8-2 against McLaurin since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Magee Trojans will face off against the McLaurin Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Magee is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Port Gibson as Magee made off with a 57-35 victory. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, McLaurin came tearing into Tuesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 61-49 win over the Chiefs. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Chiefs are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Magee's record now sits at 19-4. As for McLaurin, their record is now 25-5.

Magee beat McLaurin 73-65 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Will Magee repeat their success, or does McLaurin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
