League recap: Downey's MURILLO delivers best pitching performance from past week

San Gabriel Valley league recap: 3/13/13

Francisco Murillo was the best pitcher in San Gabriel Valley this week, leading Downey. He won two games and struck out nine batters.

The Vikings outpaced the rest of the league this week, as their four total wins led the league. Downey beat Artesia 14-2, Anaheim 3-0, Long Beach Poly 3-2 and the Jackrabbits 1-0.

Gahr boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

With two wins and nine strikeouts, MURILLO was the top pitcher in the league.

The Vikings' Alex Rodriguez was locked in this week, and led the league with a .438 average (7-for-16) over that span. For the season, he's hitting .433, good for third in the league. RODRIGUEZ has totaled 13 hits this season.

RODRIGUEZ drove in five runners as Downey defeated the Pioneers 14-2 on Saturday. He went 4-for-5 and scored one run.

MURILLO threw a shutout as he led the Vikings to victory over the Colonists, 3-0, on Thursday. He struck out five, allowing three hits.
