Softball Recap: Lyons Extends Winning Streak to Four

Lyons waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Waterloo Tigers as they made off with a 10-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Keira Weber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rylee Richardson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Lydia Briggs, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Lyons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Lyons pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Waterloo, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Lyons will take on Mynderse Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. As for Waterloo, they will face off against Romulus at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
