Basketball Game Preview: Southport Cardinals vs. Beech Grove Hornets

The Southport Cardinals will face off against the Beech Grove Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Wednesday, Southport came up short against Ben Davis and fell 59-47. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Giants are ranked third).

Meanwhile, Beech Grove played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 72-46 to Pike. The Hornets were down 62-38 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Southport will have to contain Tyris Reid as he made an impact in Beech Grove's last game. He went 6 of 13 en route to 19 points. TyQuan Lee was another key player, putting up eight points.

Beech Grove has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Southport, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Everything went Southport's way against Beech Grove in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Southport made off with a 71-49 victory. Does Southport have another victory up their sleeve, or will Beech Grove turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
