Basketball Recap: Chevak Takes a Loss

Chevak fought the good fight in their overtime match against Hooper Bay on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 67-66 to the Hooper Bay Warriors. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (56), the Comets still had to take the loss.

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Laiton Pingayak, who posted 24 points. With that strong performance, Pingayak is now averaging an impressive 17 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Pingayak-Green, who put up 20 points.

Chevak's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Hooper Bay, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Chevak didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 80-34 win against Alakanuk on the 24th. As for Hooper Bay, they will be taking part in a tournament against Cordova at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Cordova will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Hooper Bay surely won't give up without a fight.
