Softball Recap: Pleasant Valley Extends Winning Streak to 11

Pleasant Valley barely beat Shasta the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 9-1 win on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on 11 straight.

Alissa Snipes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Thurman, who fired off three home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Carisma Ta'Amai was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Pleasant Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matches.

Pleasant Valley pushed their record up to 16-5-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Shasta, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-14.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Pleasant Valley will face off against rival Chico at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.6, the Panthers 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Shasta is set to challenge their familiar foe Foothill at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
