Preseason California All-State Football Teams presented by Suddenlink by Altice

Uiagalelei is a first-team All-California preseason selection presented by Suddenlink by Altice.

There's a reason there are five California teams among the Top 25 nationally in the MaxPreps preseason rankings.

Several are those reasons are linked below in the Preseason California All-State Football Teams presented by Suddenlink by Altice.

This is the first in a series of All-State teams that will appear in MaxPreps before the start of the football season. Note that 11 selections combined below are from the nation's Nos. 1 and 3 teams respectively, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower).



First Team offense

QB — DJ Uiagalelei, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) | Sr. | 6-5 | 245
The third-year starter is ranked the No. 1 quarterback from the Class of 2020 by 247Sports. The future Clemson Tiger was named the 2018 California Gatorade Football Player of the Year.

QB — Bryce Young, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) | Sr. | 5-11 | 185
The USC commit threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 39 touchdowns after leading Monarchs to their second consecutive CIF Open Division state championship. He was named the MaxPreps Co-Junior of the Year and leads the way for the preseason No. 1 team in the country

RB — Kendall Milton, Buchanan (Clovis) | Sr. | 6-2 | 220
The rugged and fleet standout is ranked the No. 3 running back in the country. He has 39 college offers but earlier this week picked Georgia.

RB — Daniyel Ngata, Folsom | Sr. | 5-9 | 185
The No. 48 2020 recruit in the country is a highly versatile weapon for one of the nation's top offenses. He's rushed for 1,734 career yards and 21 touchdowns and caught 73 passes for 1,044 yards and 14 more scores. Also a tremendous blocker, Ngata figures to be even more active for the nation's No. 25 team.

WR — Gary Bryant, Centennial (Corona) | Sr. | 5-11 | 170
Matt Logan always has one of the best offenses in California and his biggest weapon will be the 4-star receiver, who had 40 catches for 905 yards and 11 touchdowns in 11 games last season. Bryant has 23 college offers, but figures to pick between Pac-12 schools, or Michigan or Oklahoma.

WR — Johnny Wilson, Calabasas | Sr. | 6-6 | 225
The 5-star wide receiver dominates over smaller defensive players and just about everyone else. In three seasons, he's pulled down 150 passes for 2,426 yards and 35 touchdowns.

The dominating pass catcher and blocker has already committed to Washington after hauling in 54 passes for 598 yards and nine touchdowns last season.



OL — Myles Murao, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) | Sr. | 6-2 | 312
Showed he is fully recovered after an injury cut short his junior season. He was one of the top offensive linemen at The Opening earlier this summer and will be the leader for one of the best offensive lines in 2019.

OL — Drake Metcalf, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) | Sr. | 6-2 | 276
The 2020 Stanford commit is one of the most versatile and nastiest lineman for the Southern California power.

The dominating tackle has 26 college offers but has committed to Michigan. He's ranked the No. 32 tackle in the nation by 247Sports.

OL — AJ Vaipulu, Centennial (Corona) | So. | 6-2 | 235
The second-team sophomore All-American center anchors the line for the nation's No. 12 team.

OL — George Miki-Han, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) | Jr. | 6-1 | 308
For the nation's top-ranked team, Miki-Han is ranked the eighth best center in the country, according to 247Sports. 

AP — Shamar Garrett, De La Salle (Concord) | Sr. | 5-8 | 180
Garrett led the Spartans with 1,076 rushing yards in 118 carries and 11 touchdowns and was perhaps better on defense with seven interceptions, two returned for touchdowns. He's also a terrific return and the team's third-string quarterback.

First team defense



DL — Korey Foreman, Centennial (Corona) | Jr. | 6-4 | 245
Ranked the fifth best junior overall nationally because of his tremendous size, athleticism and instinct. He has 25 college offers, including Oregon, USC, UCLA, Alabama, Penn State, Georgia and Ohio State.

DL — Jordan Banks, Narbonne (Harbor City) | Sr. | 6-1 | 228
One of the most versatile defensive players in the country. Can line up on the defensive line or at linebacker. Had 13 sacks and 20 tackles for loss during his junior year.

DL — DeShawn Lynch, Folsom | Sr. | 6-4 | 280
Alabama, Oklahoma and Washington appear to be the front runner for this athletic defensive end who wreaks havoc on quarterbacks for the state's No. 25 team.

DL — Keanu Williams, Clovis | Jr. | 6-5 | 250
The defensive end had 10 tackles for loss last season, including five sacks. He has offers from Oregon, Michigan and USC, among others.

LB — Justin Flowe, Upland | Sr. | 6-1 | 228
Had 145 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, five sacks and forced two fumbles during his junior season. He's the highest rated player by MaxPreps at any position in the country.

LB — Raesjon Davis, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) | Jr. | 6-1 | 220
A big-play defender last season for the two-time defending CIF Open Division champions. The outside linebacker had 44 tackles and 7.5 sacks, but look for those numbers to possibly double in 2019. He's the No. 22 recruit overall in the country from the Class of 2021.

LB Kourt Williams II, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) | Jr. | 6-1 | 215
Plays sideline to sideline, possessing superb speed (4.6-second in 40-yard-dash) and instinct. With 23 college offers, Williams is scheduled to make a commitment Wednesday. Ohio State appears at the top of his list.

DB — Clark Phillips, III, La Habra | Sr. | 5-11 | 180
Future Ohio State Buckeye is a shutdown corner and had over 1,200 yards receiving and 19 touchdowns last season.



DB — Darion Green-Warren, Narbonne (Harbor City) | Sr. | 6-0 | 187
The Mater Dei transfer made a huge impact on defense the last two seasons and will be a big-time playmaker for the Gauchos in 2019.

DB — Jaylin Davies, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) | Jr. | 5-11 | 170
The lockdown cornerback already has 16 college offers, but appears to be leaning toward UCLA, though Alabama, Auburn and Florida are other suitors.

DB — Domani Jackson, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) | So. | 6-1 | 170
The physical cornerback is a first-team preseason sophomore All-American. He already has 23 college offers.

AP — Jaden Navarrette, Norco | Sr. | 6-3 | 235
The 6-3, 235-pound senior is ranked the ninth best athlete in the country and is committed to Oregon. He caught 37 passes for 670 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018.

Second team offense

QB Jacob Garcia, Narbonne (Harbor City) | Jr. | 6-3 | 180
Expect a huge junior season for the 4-star standout, ranked the No. 19 recruit overall from the Class of 2021. He already has 23 college offers

QB Jay Butterfield, Liberty (Brentwood) | Sr. | 6-6 | 205
A pro-style quarterback, Butterfield is the son of former Stanford quarterback Marc Butterfield. He led the Lions to a first state title, throwing for 3,294 yards and 43 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

RB Chris Street, JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) | Sr. | 5-11 | 205
Street rushed for 1,342 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. With 11 offers on the table, Street has already picked Cal, but Arizona, Florida and Boston College hope he changes his mind.

RB Raleek Brown, Edison (Stockton) | So. | 5-7 | 175
Brown did it all for Edison as a freshman. He rushed for 1,688 yards and 18 TDs, and caught 31 passes for 741 yards and nine TDs as a first-team MaxPreps freshman All-American. Alabama, Florida State and Michigan have already offered. 



WR Elijhah Badger, Folsom | Sr. | 6-1 | 185
With the graduation of current Clemson freshman Joe Ngata, Badger figures to get many more targets. In two seasons, the fluid, explosive receiver has 104 catches for 2,012 yards and 32 touchdowns.

The Washington commit figures to vastly increase his totals of 171 career catches for 3,590 yards and 42 touchdowns. He's the No. 5 overall senior recruit in California.

TE Jack Yary, Murrieta Valley | Sr. | 6-7 | 250
The son of NFL Hall of Fame offensive lineman Ron Yary, Jack has already committed to his dad's former school USC.

OL Jonah Monheim, Moorpark | Sr. | 6-7 | 280
The No. 67 recruit overall in the state has offers from Alabama, Oklahoma and USC. He paved the way for an offense that last season averaged better than 400 yards per game.

OL Everett Johnson, Turlock | Sr. | 6-7 | 312
The Cal commit led the Bulldogs to an 8-4 record last season. Their potent offense scored nearly 400 points thanks in large part to Johnson.

OL Andres Dewerk, Los Gatos | Sr. | 6-7 | 297
A terrific run-blocker, Dewerk plays with aggression, yet shows superb agility for his size. Dewerk has 16 offers, but he's already chosen USC.



OL Joseph Church, Upland | Sr. | 6-5 | 285
Church shows outstanding agility to go along with his size and strength. It looks like Arizona State is in the lead for his college choices.

OL Earnest Greene III, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) | So. | 6-3 | 301
Despite that he's only completed the ninth grade for the nation's No. 3 team, Greene already has received 12 offers, including Arizona State, Florida State, LSU and Florida.

AP Lavon Bunkley-Shelton, Serra (Gardena) | Sr. | 6-0 | 180
Bunkley-Shelton has added height and muscle and looks like one of the best receivers in the country. He's received 22 offers, including Ohio State.

Second team defense

DL — Jamar Sekona, Marin Catholic (Kentfield) | Sr. | 6-4 | 310
The third-year starter for the Wildcats has piled up more than 150 tackles and 21 sacks in his career. He has 14 college offers and last week committed to USC.

DL — Lance Keneley, Mission Viejo | Sr. | 6-5 | 240
The defensive end has 99 tackles and 14.5 sacks during his fantastic two-year prep career. He's landed 23 college offers, including Utah, Washington, UCLA and Arizona State.

DL — Jordan Berry, Narbonne (Harbor City) | Sr. | 6-3 | 305 
The defensive tackle has already landed a scholarship to LSU for the nation's No. 27 team.



DL — Jake Shipley, Shadow Hills (Indio) | Sr. | 6-5 | 270
The defensive end had 73 tackles, 13 for losses, as a junior. He's committed to Oregon.

LB — Jaden Genova, JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) | Jr. | 6-0 | 200
Genova makes up for his lack of size with quickness and a nose for the ball. He had 78 tackles and nine sacks last season for the 9-3 Lions. He has an offer from Oregon.

LB — Jonathan Flowe, Upland | Jr. | 6-1 | 195
The defensive end/linebacker led his team with 12 sacks to go along with 68 sacks last season as a sophomore. He's the No. 8 recruit overall from the state in the Class of 2021.

LB — Justin Houston, Serra (Gardena) | Sr. | 6-4 | 190
In three seasons, Houston has been extremely productive with 282 tackles and 11 pass deflections. He has 12 college offers, including Arizona State, Boston College, Florida and LSU.

DB — Isaiah Young, Centennial (Corona) | Sr. | 5-10 | 170
The third-year starter for the nation's No. 12 team has been on 73 tackles with 20 pass deflections. He's committed to Cal.

DB — James Smith, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) | Sr. | 6-1 | 180
The cornerback for the country's for the country's No. 3 team has 13 college offers, but has already committed to Washington.

DB — Brandon Jones, Narbonne (Harbor City) | Sr. | 5-10 | 175
The cornerback for the nation's No. 27 team has committed to Stanford. A versatile athlete who also plays basketball, Jones has played running back and receiver for the Gauchos.



DB — Zion Alefosio, Villa Park | Sr. | 6-1 | 200
Alefosio had 43 tackles and three interceptions as a junior, and also starred on offense. He has 11 college offers, including Arizona and Arizona State.

The linebacker is fast enough to play strong safety, making him a very versatile prospect, just like his two older brothers.
