Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon/Plankinton Titans vs. Gayville-Volin Raiders

Mt. Vernon/Plankinton and Gayville-Volin squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Mt. Vernon/Plankinton had to settle for second. They lost 11-1 to the Gayville-Volin Raiders. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was red-hot at the plate headed into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior) but Gayville-Volin's pitcher proved too tough.

For Gayville-Volin's part, Ayla Dimmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Dimmer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive pitching appearances. Dimmer was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Jolie Westrum was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Paisley Dimmer was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Mt. Vernon/Plankinton has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Gayville-Volin, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5.
