Recap: St. Francis Spartans vs. Fenwick Friars
The St. Francis Spartans were the 51-38 winner over the Fenwick Friars when they last played one another on January 6th, but their luck changed this time around. St. Francis fell 56-49 to Fenwick on Monday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as St. Francis came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Fenwick is ranked 270th).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dolly Smith, who scored nine points. Natalie Doyle was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
St. Francis are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-12. As for Fenwick, their win bumped their record up to 7-18.
St. Francis will be playing in front of their home fans against Saint Ignatius College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fenwick, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Loyola Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 30th. Loyola Academy will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
