Volleyball Game Preview: Mater Dei Monarchs vs. Sierra Canyon Trailblazers

Mater Dei is a perfect 8-0 against Sierra Canyon since August of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a 16-game winning streak alive.

Mater Dei is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over San Juan Hills.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Mater Dei was: they took every set by at least ten points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-11, 25-15.

Sam Capinpin and Kalea Lee were among the main playmakers for Mater Dei as the former had 20 assists and seven digs and the latter had 12 assists and five digs. That's the most digs Lee has posted since back in October.

On Saturday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the court. Sierra Canyon came out on top in a nail-biter against Marymount, sneaking past 3-2.

Sierra Canyon was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 26-28, 24-26, 25-22, 15-9.

Mater Dei's victory bumped their record up to 31-4. As for Sierra Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 38-3.

Mater Dei skirted past Sierra Canyon 3-2 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
