Basketball Recap: Valparaiso Comes Up Short

Valparaiso was the 63-57 winner over Chesterton when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Valparaiso Vikings fell 62-52 to the Chesterton Trojans on Friday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Valparaiso saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maddux Wagner went 6-for-11 on his way to 17 points. The dominant performance gave Wagner a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kj Avery, who posted 11 points.

Valparaiso's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Chesterton, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-8.

Looking ahead, Valparaiso will face off against Hammond Central at 7:00 p.m. on February 28th. As for Chesterton, they have already played their next matchup, a 79-17 victory against Whiting on the 22nd.
