Football Recap: Sutherlin Bulldogs vs. Douglas Trojans
Sutherlin fought the good fight in their overtime game against Douglas on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They and the Trojans were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered a 41-40 loss. The Bulldogs lost against the Trojans in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 39-14 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Sutherlin lost, don't look at Eden Cardoza. Despite the final result, he rushed for 254 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, and also picked up 40 receiving yards. Ryder Sawyer produced another solid performance throwing for 234 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 91 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries for Douglas. Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sutherlin will welcome Brookings-Harbor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Bruins' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.4 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Douglas, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Siuslaw at 7:00 p.m.
