Preview: Upland vs. Yorba Linda
The Upland Highlanders/Scots will face off against the Yorba Linda Mustangs at TBD on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Upland had no problem doing just that on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Vikings a 3-0 shutout. Given Upland's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Mountain View is ranked 450th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Upland hit Mountain View with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from
Nicholas Giron,
Luis Meza, and
Gavin Sampognaro.
Meanwhile, Yorba Linda put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. Everything went their way against Orange Vista as Yorba Linda made off with a 7-2 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 5-0.
Upland is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4-4 record this season. As for Yorba Linda, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6-2.
