Softball Recap: Garland Takes a Loss

Garland has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.58 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They lost 17-11 to the Wylie Pirates. The Owls' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Karmen Sanders and Mady Key did some serious damage despite the final result: Sanders went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Key went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave Key a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Sinijay Maxey, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Garland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.

Garland's loss dropped their record down to 8-3-1. As for Wylie, they pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Garland and Wylie will both be playing Lakeview Centennial the next time they take the field. Garland will head out to face Lakeview Centennial at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, while Wylie will host them at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
