Basketball Game Preview: Open Door Christian Patriots vs. Vermilion Sailors

The Open Door Christian Patriots will take on the Vermilion Sailors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Open Door Christian will be strutting in after a win while Vermilion will be coming in after a loss.

Last Thursday, Open Door Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Max S. Hayes, taking the game 67-55.

Meanwhile, Vermilion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 64-40 to Margaretta. The Sailors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-14.

Despite the loss, Vermilion saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nate Pinkerton posted 12 points. Noah Penton was another key player, putting up five points.

Vermilion's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Open Door Christian, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13.

Open Door Christian barely slipped by Vermilion in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 60-59. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Vermilion's Riley Kearns, who went 9 of 16 on his way to 23 points and five rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Open Door Christian to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
