Recap: San Jacinto Valley Academy Wolves vs. Calvin Christian Crusaders
The San Jacinto Valley Academy Wolves were the 41-26 winner over the Calvin Christian Crusaders when they last played one another back in January of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. San Jacinto Valley Academy fell 42-31 to Calvin Christian on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points San Jacinto Valley Academy has scored all season.
San Jacinto Valley Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Robert Edwards, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds, and Jacob Fisher who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Edwards continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Even though they lost, San Jacinto Valley Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their eighth loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Calvin Christian found their leader in underclassman Caleb Lapka, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lapka has scored at least a third of Calvin Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Oh, who scored seven points along with five steals.
San Jacinto Valley Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Calvin Christian, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
San Jacinto Valley Academy on the road again on Monday and play against Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School at 6:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Calvin Christian, they will stay at home for another game and welcome St. Joseph Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 22nd. St. Joseph Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Calvin Christian in California (St. Joseph Academy is ranked 502nd, while Calvin Christian is ranked 1083rd).
