Think girls basketball recruiting is a step down in intensity from the boys?

Consider the case of Monacan (Richmond, Va.) senior Megan Walker, who signed with Connecticut on Thursday and is considered the nation's No. 1 player by ESPN.

According to Laura Fien of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Walker received precisely 1,229 letters from 109 schools. Of those letters, 147 were sent by head coach Karen Aston's staff at Texas.

The 6-foot-1, do-it-all wing picked Geno Auriemma's Huskies over Notre Dame and Texas.

Walker averaged 21.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a junior for Monacan, which won its second straight state title last season.
