Basketball Recap: Drean Aikins Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Global Studies

Newark Central won against West Side last Tuesday with 60 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. The Newark Central Blue Devils came out on top against Global Studies by a score of 60-47. The Blue Devils pushed the score to 54-34 by the end of the third, a deficit Global Studies cut but never quite recovered from.

Newark Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Drean Aikins out in front who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards. The game was Aikins' third in a row with at least 15 points. Malachi Thomas was another key player, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Newark Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Newark Central and bumps their season record up to 7-17. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points over those games. As for Global Studies, they dropped their record down to 4-9 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Newark Central and North Star Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played. As for Global Studies, they will challenge Cedar Grove on Wednesday.
