Basketball Game Preview: Speedway Sparkplugs vs. Indian Creek Braves

Speedway hasn't had much luck against Indian Creek recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Sparkplugs will take on the Braves at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

While Sparkplugs fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. They walked away with a 67-60 victory over Western Boone on Thursday. The Sparkplugs haven't had any issues with the Stars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Speedway's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madelynn Matelic, who went 10-for-19 on her way to 24 points and eight boards. Those 24 points gave Matelic a new career-high. Macy DeLisle was another key player, shooting 64% from the field en route to 17 points and five steals.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Indian Creek over Martinsville in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Braves blew the Artesians out of the water with a 71-38 final score.

Speedway lost to Indian Creek on the road by a decisive 51-37 margin when the teams last played back in January. Thankfully for the Sparkplugs, Jasmine Day (who went 6-for-9 to rack up 18 points along with seven assists and six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
