Game recap: East Peoria high school football team upsets Pekin

Saturday saw a surprise upset in Illinois where East Peoria (Ill.) triumphed over Pekin (Ill.) 27-10.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Michael Thompson in the first quarter, the Raiders led 19-10 at the half.

East Peoria expanded its lead to 17 points entering the fourth quarter. EP scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run.

Thompson was the top performer for the Raiders. The junior running back ran for one touchdown.



Michael Bianchi played well for the Dragons. The sophomore ran for one touchdown.

Pekin's lone touchdown came on a 78-yard run by Bianchi in the first quarter.

East Peoria came in allowing an average of 24.0 points per game this season.

The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which PHS took, 42-0.

The defeat comes as a step back for Pekin, which notched a 38-14 victory over Canton in its previous outing. With the win EP extended its winning streak to four games.

Next week, the Dragons (5-3) will take on Dunlap in a Mid-Illini game. The Eagles go into the week with a record of 2-5.
