Basketball Game Preview: Lamar County Trojans vs. Social Circle Redskins

Lamar County is 0-6 against Social Circle since December of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Lamar County Trojans will head out to face off against the Social Circle Redskins at 7:00 p.m.

Lamar County is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Upson-Lee on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Lamar County was dealt an 80-50 defeat at the hands of Upson-Lee. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 443rd, while the Knights are ranked 85th).

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Social Circle beat Walnut Grove 55-50 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Redskins.

Lamar County better keep an eye on Derrick White. He was instrumental in Social Circle's win, putting up 14 points and four steals. White has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Damien Phelps, who posted eight points.

Social Circle has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Lamar County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.

Lamar County came up short against Social Circle in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 56-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of White, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards.
