Baseball Recap: Newton Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Newton had lost seven games at home dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 9-9 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They never let the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. Eight seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The result came thanks to Drake Wolf's shutout, as he gave up just six hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newton is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Quincy Fulton was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Newton is 3-1 when Fulton posts one or more home runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Dominic Baltzell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Newton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

As for Mt. Carmel, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered against Newton since March 17, 2022.

On Mt. Carmel's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Sloss, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will head out to take on Marshall at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mt. Carmel, they will venture away from home to square off against Princeton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Golden Aces' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
