Basketball Recap: Anselmo-Merna Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Anselmo-Merna). They walked away with a 64-52 win over the Overton Eagles on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Coyotes.

Anselmo-Merna got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dane Duryea out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Duryea is now averaging an impressive 8.4 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Kayden Record, who went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds.

Anselmo-Merna was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Overton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Luther, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. Luther has been hot recently, having also posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brock McCarter, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards.

Anselmo-Merna's win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. As for Overton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Anselmo-Merna didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-44 victory against Mullen on the 19th. As for Overton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 72-58 loss against Pleasanton on the 20th.
