Baseball Game Preview: Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks vs. Fairport Red Raiders

The Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks will head out on the road to take on the Fairport Red Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games Newburgh Free Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Tuesday, Newburgh Free Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Fairfax. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 6-5 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Logan Voltaire was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jake Cross also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Fairport unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Penfield by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Raiders have suffered since April 29, 2024.

Newburgh Free Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Fairport, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
