Softball Game Preview: Great Bridge Wildcats vs. Kempsville Chiefs

Great Bridge and Kempsville are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will welcome the Chiefs at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Thursday, Great Bridge got the win against Lakeland by a conclusive 12-2. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won eight in a row.

Hannah Ferrell was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of LB Scott, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Kempsville got themselves on the board against Princess Anne on Thursday, but Princess Anne never followed suit. They blew past the Cavaliers 8-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chiefs.

Great Bridge's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Kempsville, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.

Great Bridge came up short against Kempsville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
