Central is 1-9 against Paxton since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Central Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Paxton Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Central rose to the challenge on Monday. They skirted past the Gators 33-31.
Central's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lakin Mathews, who scored 13 points along with five steals, and Lily Mathews, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mathews has scored at least a third of Central's points.
Meanwhile, Paxton stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They claimed a resounding 51-13 win over Northview at home. The victory was nothing new for Paxton as they're now sitting on eight straight.
Hydie Varnum was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Carson, who scored four points along with six steals.
Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. As for Paxton, they pushed their record up to 19-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Central didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Paxton when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 45-40 win. Does Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Paxton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
