Newman Central Catholic had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Bureau Valley Storm. This was payback for the Comets, who suffered a 2-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

While Newman Central Catholic won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-16.

Coming up, Newman Central Catholic will head out on the road to challenge East Moline United at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bureau Valley, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will take on Erie-Prophetstown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
