Softball Game Preview: Monarch Knights vs. Blanche Ely Tigers

Monarch is a perfect 3-0 against Blanche Ely since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Monarch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Monarch made easy work of Cypress Bay and carried off an 11-3 victory. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

Mia Macaione was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Sara Connor was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mylie Carlson, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Monarch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Blanche Ely came up short against Fort Lauderdale back in March, falling 17-1. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Monarch has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Blanche Ely, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Monarch took their victory against Blanche Ely in their previous meeting back in April of 2015 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
