Basketball Recap: Mid-Carolina Rebels vs. Batesburg-Leesville Panthers
After flying high against Thornwell on Monday, Mid-Carolina came back down to earth. The Rebels were beaten by the Batesburg-Leesville Panthers 65-37 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rebels of the 56-40 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.
Mid-Carolina's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Treyvon Smith, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Templin, who scored six points and nine boards.
Leading Batesburg-Leesville to victory were Braylen Davis and Ta'Maj Gilliam. Davis went 11-for-19 on his way to 29 points and six steals, while Gilliam shot 44% from the field to rack up 19 points and five steals. Gilliam is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season. Cameron Martin was another key player, putting up six points.
Mid-Carolina's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Batesburg-Leesville, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mid-Carolina will take on Airport at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Batesburg-Leesville, they will square off against Ridge Spring-Monetta at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
