Soccer Recap: Giles' Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

If Giles was riding high fresh off their 4-0 takedown of Fort Chiswell two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans fell 4-2 to the George Wythe Maroons on Tuesday. Giles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced George Wythe earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Ada Steele and Kerrigan Mitcham scored both of Giles' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 42 goals.

The loss snapped Giles' winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 9-6 record. As for George Wythe, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-4-2.

Looking ahead, Giles will be playing in front of their home fans against Bland County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bland County are coming into the game with three straight victories on the road, so Giles will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for George Wythe, they will welcome Auburn at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. George Wythe will need to watch out since Auburn have now posted at least four goals in their last three matches.
