Baseball Recap: Greeley Central Wildcats vs. Fort Lupton Bluedevils
Greeley Central had lost eight straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-16 to make it nine. They fell 12-7 to the Fort Lupton Bluedevils. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bluedevils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Anthony Partida was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Owen Yost, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
As for Fort Lupton, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-12. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
On Fort Lupton's side, Josiah Gonzales made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Gonzales is becoming a predictor of Fort Lupton's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-11 when he doesn't). In other batting news, Cade Rhoda was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jesse Ceretto was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
