Softball Recap: Maricopa Has No Trouble Against St. Mary's

Maricopa's tournament run continued when they took on St. Mary on Friday. The Maricopa Rams were the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over the St. Mary's Knights. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.

Athena Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alanee Calderon, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hailee Klutz - Phillips, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Maricopa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's only posted an OBP of .368.

Maricopa now has a winning record of 2-1. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
