Volleyball Recap: Lafayette Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with West Jessamine

Lafayette faced West Jessamine in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Generals fell 3-1 to the Colts. The loss continues a trend for the Generals in their meetings with the Colts: they've now lost three in a row.

While Lafayette had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 19 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21.

Jake Peterson paced Lafayette's offense, picking up seven kills. Peterson got some help from Jaiden Vanover and his 19 assists. Sanan Ahmad and Ben Marsh kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

West Jessamine's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cohen Freese, who had 11 digs. That's the most digs Freese has posted since back in March.

Lafayette's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for West Jessamine, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Lafayette will be playing in front of their home fans against Paul Laurence Dunbar at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Jessamine, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 1-1 draw against Oldham County on the 19th.
