Basketball Recap: Hazen Comes Up Short

Hazen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by the Bothell Cougars 66-20. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Cougars are ranked 21st).

Charlotte Lipkin was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-5 from long range and dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards for Bothell. Lipkin has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last nine times she's played. Bailey Petrin was another key player, going 7 of 11 on her way to 14 points and four steals.

Hazen's defeat dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Bothell, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazen will head out to square off against Liberty at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bothell, they are taking a road trip to take on Mercer Island at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mercer Island is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.
