The Bonsall Legionnaires will venture away from home to square off against the Ocean View Christian Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bonsall has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bonsall came up short against Valley Center on Monday, falling 22-1. The Legionnaires have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ocean View Christian). They blew past San Diego Academy 22-4 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won six in a row.
Tabitha Channell made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Tori Worthington was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Pollard, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Ocean View Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Bonsall's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Ocean View Christian, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-8.
Bonsall took their win against Ocean View Christian in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 14-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Legionnaires since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
