Softball Recap: Bishop Hartley Hawks vs. Bishop Ready Silver Knights
Bishop Hartley was the 13-3 winner over Bishop Ready when they last played one another back in April of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Bishop Hartley Hawks fell just short of the Bishop Ready Silver Knights by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday.
Jasmine Wooten was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Wooten was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Wooten wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Bailey, who went 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Anaya Bumpus was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Bishop Hartley didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with ten strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Ready only tossed five.
On Bishop Ready's side, Sophia Scott was incredible, going 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
Bishop Hartley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Bishop Ready, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-0.
Bishop Hartley will challenge Centerburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bishop Hartley has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Bishop Ready, they will head out on the road to square off against Northridge at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
